Loving - God and Neighbor. True Faith is a loving relationship between an individual and the Almighty God. Jesus said that the greatest commandment is..."YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.' "This is the great and foremost commandment. "The second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."
How can natural born sinners do this? 1 John 4:10-11 "In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another." 1 John 4:19 "We love, because He first loved us." We love because he first loved us by sending His beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be the perfect sacrifice to pay the penalty for our sin that we could not pay ourselves. Our Fellowship with one another is grounded upon this truth of the Love of God poured out upon us in His Son Jesus Christ.
Learning - While God graciously gives us the gift of faith in His Son, he has not stopped there. He has also sent the Holy Spirit to live within us and give us understanding of the Scriptures. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." We have the Scriptures which are the inerrant and infallible guide for the life of the believer. Our fellowship is founded on the truth of the Gospel which is found in the Scriptures. Because the Word of God is the inerrant and infallible guide to a life pleasing to Christ, we desire to never stop learning. We do this in a variety of ways. First, we are committed to expository preaching. We begin a book of the Bible and preach through a section of the text each week from the first verse until we complete that book. In addition we seek to teach the Scriptures in small group settings that are conducive to discussion so that the Word may be brought to bear upon our everyday lives. We also encourage believers to daily study the Word of God as part of their daily devotions.
Living - It is true that we are saved by God's Grace through faith in Jesus Christ as revealed to us in the Scriptures, but our faith and our continual learning is not for us. We are not only to understand the truth, but we are called to live lives that are obedient to God as revealed in the the Scriptures. We have been saved by God's grace for Good works which He prepared before hand for us (Ephesians 2:8-10). A life that is obedient to the Scriptures flows from the overwhelming sense of awe of who God is and out of hearts that are overflowing with gratitude for a God who has set us free from sin and his coming wrath. Our understanding of the truth of who God is, who Christ is and what He has done for us can do nothing but lead us to live lives that bring Glory to God as we obey Him daily and make his marvelous works known to a lost world. 1 Peter 2:9 "But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;"
